Let's Play Stellaris: Part 19 - Victory! Sort of

"The war that had been planned for so long had finally begun in earnest. The worry of losing the entire fleet was in the back of everyone's mind after initial early faltering. However years of research and new technology proved to be decisive in battle against the Uriy Suns. Their ships were scattered time and again by the first fleet as the Cartel seeks to claim their systems and turn them into a subsidiary. The Cartel's time had come would they rise above all others or fall? Only time would tell."

So here we are again, in the middle of our war with the Unified Uriy Suns and doing, decently though not amazingly well against them. With their fleets running around it's becoming a hard choice to decide between chasing them down or just taking their systems to get their war exhaustion higher. For now though I think it will be best to push on one of their colonies and occupy with my ground forces after softening it up from orbit with the first fleet. At least that is the plan.

Then the Uriy Suns decides to throw a spanner in the works and they actually have fleet attack our space, uh oh. I quickly usher the physics research division out of the oligarchs office with instructions to just improve our orbital research stations again as I have a dilemma. Only Vulpinus has any real defences right now with our new colony now at risk I decide to start moving the first fleet back to try and take them out. I do try to upgrade the Bir Zun star-base hoping that it may be enough to hold out against the Uriy suns, the other systems don't matter much as the research and mining stations can be rebuilt.

Luckily the Uriy Suns pull back into their own space before taking any further progress into Cartel territory but sadly for them as they re-enter their own territory the first fleet is waiting for them. As the Oligarch and the Cartel board of directors watches the space battle unfolding with no small amount of glee they wave off the society division to research artificial moral codes (just a reduction in crime and more amenities.) For a cost of two corvettes the enemy fleet is driven off losing six more ships with the rest fleeing.

The first fleet ambushes a Uriy Suns fleet as it enters the system.

It's at this point sensors detect a much larger fleet of the Uriy Suns nearly rivaling the entire first fleet in power so let's see how they fare. Though I am getting a little worried about the first fleet itself as they are starting to get worn down, a few corvettes here and there, some armour damage and the like, so I set some reinforcements to build with what few alloys I have to spare.

Whilst the first fleet moves toward it's next objective with the assault transports in tow we have a couple of interesting options for our next engineering tech. Extra corvette hullpoints or even extra defence platform hull, let's do the defence platform one. We now have cruiser hulls available but I'll design one later, let's just carry on with our conquest of the Uriy Suns empire.

The first fleet bats aside another outpost as they head toward the Peya system and it's colony, a small enemy fleet that was present flees into the Homolog Continuum rather than get destroyed whilst the first fleet engages the defending star-base.

The first fleet takes on a Uriy Suns Starbase at point blank range.

Sadly our transports were a little too slow and a small enemy fleet forces them to do an emergency retreat before the first fleet can give chase. We now have pushed the Uriy Suns war exhaustion up enough to claim three of the six systems we initially wanted but let's see if we can't nudge it a bit higher. The Uriy Suns try to sue for peace but before I even consider that I am going to reclaim the two minor systems they occupied from me. The first fleet is mainly just doing clean up now, running down small Uriy Suns fleets and utterly obliterating them.

We settle for the status quo option just as a frankly massive Uriy Suns fleet appears which is stronger than the first fleet now. The wear and tear from many battles has taken it's toll so we settle for claiming three of their systems essentially cutting a nice foxy chunk into their territory. We'll have to get a bigger fleet or two for the next attempt at taking the Uriy Suns down, but we gave them a bloody nose and that is good enough for now.

With hostilities over for now the first fleet is ordered home for repairs as I link up the small island of new Fox Cartel space with the rest of our fledgling empire by claiming another unoccupied system. Our first proper war and we won.. Kind of however the concerning thing is just how big that Uriy Suns fleet was after I'd been clobbering them fairly soundly, we may have to grind them down slowly.

Whilst taking stock of the situation and moving back to more economic pursuits something unexpected happens. The Skanuri Bloc decides to throw a diplomatic insult our way, why those good for nothing bird brains, talentless Fox!? How dare they.

How rude.

With the war now done with it's time to bring this part to a close, I know it wasn't the most exciting or decisive war but it was a good start. The Uriy Suns are still our main target but with the Skanuri Bloc getting a bit uppity I think it's time we looked into our defences just to make sure we can focus on offence and not need to worry too much about enemy fleets attacking my territory.
